Full-Time Nanny / Family Assistant: $100K+ and Benefits

Family with main residence in Gold Coast of Chicago, Illinois with 2 and 5 year old boys and 2 month old girl is seeking an experienced, professional, active, and engaging full-time nanny / family assistant. Schedule will typically be on Monday – Friday at 8:30 / 9:00am – 5:30 / 6:00pm. Flexibility is required to work shifted hours on certain days and during summer months when children are out of school. Family will ensure nanny has weekly schedule at least one week in advance. Approximately 15-20 weeks of domestic and international travel per year is required and approximately 4-6 weeks of overnights are required annually when principals are traveling without children. The position requires extreme flexibility as family’s schedule changes at various times in the year (e.g., summer, holidays, travel, etc.). Family has other residences in Wisconsin, Colorado, and Florida. Applicants need to be honest, trustworthy, understand the importance of maintaining discretion, collaborative and experienced working with domestic staff (part-time housekeeper and night nurse), experienced working with stay-at-home mom and principals that are at residence often (discreet and staying out of the way is important). Children attend private schools, which are short walking and driving distance from family’s residence. Staff vehicle is provided for transporting children and running errands. This is a newly created position. Family is open to local candidates and domestic relocations. Start date is flexible for the right candidate.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Infant experience and knowledgeable about routines, reading, and communicating to baby as often as possible

• Experienced with play-based learning and creating educational activities (e.g., planned engaging activities at home, developmentally appropriate games and activities, engaging projects and crafts, themed weeks, scheduled outings, etc.)

• Knowledgeable about child development (e.g., firm when necessary and capable of teaching children manners and etiquette, but also capable of being laid back and fun)

• Support teaching and reinforcement of manners and other social skills

• Provide developmentally appropriate games and activities, engaging projects and crafts at home, and schedule/plan fun outings and events

• Assist children with homework, school projects, studying for tests, etc. and keep parents informed of progress and needs 

• Transport children to and from school, scheduled activities, sports, play dates, outings, etc.

• Fresh and healthy meal planing and preparation for children that introduce them to new foods (puréed baby food or baby-led weaning for infant when developmentally appropriate)

• Pack children’s healthy lunches and bags for the following day (e.g., ensure all school work is completed, pack gear for sports and activities, etc.) 

• Domestic duties relating to children (e.g., washing dishes after meals, tidying playroom and bedrooms, packing and unpacking children for trips/travel, etc.)

• Organizational projects (e.g., children’s bedrooms, playrooms (toys, crafts, etc.), closets, rotating clothes seasonally, getting rid of outgrown toys and clothing, taking things for donation, etc.)

• Proactively create “pack lists” to ensure children have everything needed prior to travel, pack and unpack children for travel, research and plan activities at destination, and ensure appropriate gear is available at other residences, hotel or resort

• Inventory checklists for household items, food, children’s essentials, principals’ essentials, etc. and ordering through Amazon, Instacart, etc.

• Event planning for children’s themed birthday parties and other events (e.g., plan, organize and oversee flawless execution day of event) 

• Run errands (e.g., shopping for home supplies, returns, purchasing school supplies for beginning of school year and needed throughout the year, purchasing gifts for birthday parties children are attending, and other requested items)

• Handle things around the home (e.g., receiving deliveries, service providers, contractors, sending emails, going through mail and sorting bills and junk, etc.)

• Ensure pantry and refrigerator are properly stocked in accordance with the principals’ and children’s preferences, travel, and entertaining schedules

• Maintain vehicles, fill gas tank, take for service appointments and keep accurate records of services completed

• Schedule and maintain calendars for children, register for activities/camps/etc., plan play dates/outings with friends, etc. 

• Assistance with travel arrangements and ensuring all logistics are planned in advance (e.g., calling in advance to ensure adequate food is available for children and family, equipment for sports and activities, etc.) 

• Schedule meetings with principal(s) as needed to discuss their schedules, children’s schedules, travel plans, upcoming events, special projects, etc. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Capable of building rapport with similar aged children

• Experienced working with similar aged children (newborns, infants, toddlers, preschool, school aged, etc.)

• Experienced working with at least 3-4 children in nanny position

• Ability to travel internationally and domestically whenever necessary 

• Highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, excellent time management, efficient, and service focused

• Attentive to principals’ preferences and style (intuitive to their needs)

• Observant to the needs of family to anticipate their needs (e.g., plan engaging activities at home, proactively plan activities for travel, etc.)

• Ability to maintain discretion (confidentiality agreement is required)

• Ability to be discreet with respect for employer’s privacy

• Professional presentation of self and great personality 

• Ability to easily take direction

• Strong ability to communicate and collaborate efficiently and effectively with principals and domestic employees

• Experienced and willing to be an extension of the parents collaborating and communicating frequently (previous experience working with principals that are around residence is ideal)

• Positive attitude and ability to handle position with ease and calm demeanor

• Active, energetic, engaging, nurturing and creative

• Proactive, resourceful, and take initiative to get things done

• Ability to multi-task

• Active and fit

• Non-Smoker

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree

• Passionate about education, child development, and child psychology

• 3-5+ years of consistent and recent full-time nanny / family assistant experience 

• 3-4 references from domestic positions

• Seeking longevity (e.g., at least 2-5+ year commitment)

• Live a close proximity to the family’s residence in Gold Coast of Chicago or willingness to relocate within a reasonable commute

• Ability to swim and comfortable with water

• Eligible to work in the United States

• Ability to complete extensive background checks, motor vehicle checks, drug tests, and psychological evaluation 

• Driver’s license and clean driving record 

• Pediatric CPR Certification 

• Vaccinations (e.g., COVID-19, MMR, TDap, Flu Shot) 

• COVID-19 testing and antibodies testing

COMPENSATION:

• $100K+ gross annual salary (based on experience and qualifications) for 45 hours per week

• $500 gross per month health insurance stipend 

• Two weeks (10 days) vacation paid

• Week of Thanksgiving (5 days) vacation paid

• Five sick days paid

• Discretionary annual bonus and raise (performance evaluation required) 

• Valet parking spot in high-rise building provided to nanny if driving own vehicle to work
