Full-Time Private Chef: $100-120K+ and Benefits

Family with main residence in Lincoln Park of Chicago is seeking a professional, experienced and creative full-time private chef with Asian cuisine specialty. The schedule for position is five out of seven days per week, which includes a combination of weekdays and weekends. Flexibility to work holidays and events is required for position. There is potential for domestic travel in future years. Candidates must be comfortable working collaboratively with domestic employees (e.g., estate manager, housekeeper, nannies, etc.). Ideal candidate has a culinary certificate or degree, bachelor’s degree, 2-5+ years of consistent and recent full-time private chef experience, experienced preparing Asian cuisine (Chinese emphasis), knowledgeable and experienced with clean and healthy cooking, understands the importance of maintaining discretion, discreet and calm demeanor, assertive, positive, proactive, organized and detail oriented, service focused, kind, respectful, seeking longevity and has a flexible schedule. Candidates must be comfortable working around small dogs and young children. Staff vehicle is provided for running errands (e.g., grocery store, farmer’s market, butcher, etc.). Uniform is required (e.g., chef coat, indoor shoes, etc.). Family is open to local candidates and domestic relocations. Start date is flexible for the right candidate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Creativity in preparing healthy and clean meals (organic food required)

• Preparing Asian cuisine (Chinese emphasis as this is comfort food for principals) 

• Preparing foods based around specific diets (e.g., gluten free, dairy free, etc.)

• Keeping up-to-date on the latest culinary trends and fads

• Experienced with planning menus for principals, children and events

• Creating lists and ordering or shopping for fresh foods

• Professional presence and experience in food presentation and table setting is mandatory

• All food preparation and kitchen related duties along with grocery shopping

• High standards of health and hygiene with food

• Properly storing ingredients and leftovers

• Coordinating cooking and serving times with principals

• Cleaning and tidying kitchen after each use

• Maintaining all kitchen equipment

• Interactions with extended family and friends for holiday meals, dinners and events at residence

• Providing hospitality and service to guests (including semi-formal service when hosting small private events)

• Ensure pantry, refrigerator and wine cellar are properly stocked in accordance with the family’s travel and entertaining schedules

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to travel domestically whenever necessary (potential in future years)

• Highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, excellent time management, efficient and service focused

• Attentive to principals’ preferences and style (intuitive to their needs)

• Ability to maintain discretion (confidentiality agreement is required)

• Ability to be discreet with respect for family’s privacy

• Professional presentation of self and great personality

• Ability to easily take direction

• Strong ability to communicate and collaborate efficiently and effectively with principals and domestic staff

• Discreet and understand the importance of when to be present and when to be hidden

• Positive attitude and ability to handle private chef responsibilities with ease and calm demeanor

• Non-Smoker

REQUIREMENTS:

• Culinary degree or certificate

• Bachelor’s degree is desirable, but not required

• 2-5+ years of consistent and recent full-time private chef experience

• 3-4 references from domestic and/or professional positions

• United States passport

• Driver’s license and clean driving record

• Extensive background checks, motor vehicle checks, drug tests and psychological evaluation

• COVID-19 testing and antibodies testing

• Seeking longevity/long term commitment (e.g., at least 2-5+ years)

• Live a close proximity to family’s home in Lincoln Park or willingness to relocate

• Comfortable with children

• Comfortable with small dogs

COMPENSATION:

• $100-120K+ gross annual salary (based on experience and qualifications)

• $500 gross per month health insurance stipend 

• Two weeks (10 days) paid vacation

• Five sick days paid 

• Discretionary annual bonus and raise (performance evaluation required)
