Full-Time Private Chef/House Manager: $90K+ and Benefits

Family with main residence in Streeterville of Chicago is seeking a professional, experienced, creative and detail oriented full-time private chef/house manager to prepare healthy meals and assist with house management responsibilities for high-rise condo. The schedule for position is generally five days per week (one of those days on a weekend), and generally at 8:30am – 6:30pm. Two meals are typically served daily around 10:00am and 5:30pm. Principal follows intermittent fasting and eats between 10:00am – 6:00pm. Flexibility with scheduling to work occasional later evenings, weekends, entertaining/events, holidays and travel is required for position. Safe vehicle for transportation is required. Candidates must be comfortable working collaboratively with family office and fully staffed residences (e.g., chief of staff, executive assistant, nannies, etc.). Ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter with exceptional communication and problem solving skills. Reporting up to the family office, the private chef/house manager will take full responsibility for the management of residence and will be required to deliver world class service to the family and their visitors. The position will also be responsible for supervising all domestic employees (in collaboration with family office) to provide a seamless home experience for the family. Family is open to local candidates and domestic relocations. Start date is ASAP, but flexible for the right candidate. 


Your duties include all services generally performed as a private chef and house manager, such as:


• Proactive menu planning and development, including the design of unique dishes and meals, using invention, imagination and originality – based on health and wellness guidelines determined with principal 

• Recipe and wellness research – to find recipes that match the family’s need

• Follow specific dietary requests (e.g., Whole30, Keto, no dairy, no wheat, etc.), recipes requested, and ability to repeat meals that are desirable to principal and family

• Communicate and collaborate with family doctor(s) and personal trainer about health priorities and how that translates to meal planning, preparation and supplements 

• Manage supplement regimens for each family member 

• Grocery shopping and sourcing food, beverages and supplies

• Meal preparation, using fresh and healthy ingredients, including advance preparation for meals made outside of working hours (meals may be different for each family member)

• Meal service, which will be a mix of informal and formal based on the family’s needs

• Maintain highest standards of health and hygiene for food

• Manage kitchen operations, with primary responsibility for organizing and cleaning the kitchen(s) and maintaining the kitchen appliances 

• Ensure pantry and refrigerator are properly stocked in accordance with the family’s schedules 

• Meal planning and preparation for offsite locations (work with family to determine how best to provide the desired meals at work and school)

• Travel meal planning – assist principal in managing meals while traveling, including advance planning for “take-with” foods and restaurant dining

• Teach and coach other household staff (e.g., nannies) to make or complete meals when chef is not there 

• Maintain a family cookbook or recipe book in electronic and paper format

• Maintain the appropriate sections of the Household Manual electronically and in hard copy form (e.g., instructions for entertaining, checklists for appliance maintenance, etc.) 


• Provide hospitality and attend to the needs of visiting guests and family 

• Plan, setup and manage dinner parties 

• Plan, setup and manage (cook and serve) other entertaining for social, professional and civic events (preparation, guest lists, invitations, decoration, hosting, seating charts, coordinating with caterer if event is too large to manage alone, and vendors) 

• Manage “bar service” as needed 

• From time to time, provide services at the home of extended family members or friends (e.g., cooking a holiday meal or birthday dinner at the grandfather’s home)


• Manage domestic staff and supervise the quality of their performance (annual reviews are required in collaboration with family office) 

• Coordinate staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage at all times based on family’s needs

• Daily walk through of residence to ensure that all systems are functioning properly

• Schedule service personnel and contractors while keeping other household staff informed of appointments, time frame of work being completed, etc. 

• Obtain multiple quotes, negotiating contracts and managing relationships with outside vendors for all projects completed 

• Oversee household projects from start to finish 

• House projects and handling things around the residence (e.g., receiving deliveries, service providers, contractors, answering phone calls, sending emails, etc.)

• Prepare residence and family for holidays (e.g., display decorations, order Christmas tree, wrap presents/gifts, etc.)

• Manage household schedules and calendars

• Event planning, organization, coordination and flawless execution day of event

• Assist in preparing family for travel (e.g., purchasing requested items, packing, unpacking, etc.) 

• Handle household bills and administrative duties (family office is responsible for paying bills) 

• Manage household petty cash, proper documentation and submission of house/domestic credit card purchases and receipts

• Maintain comprehensive household manuals setting priorities for tasks on daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis

• Maintain file systems including those for household operations, warranty manuals, household equipment, invitations, entertainment logs, etc. 

• Maintain contact lists that include family members, vendors, contractors, businesses, etc. 

• Manage inventory for all household item supplies (e.g., China, crystal, clothing, etc.)

• General housekeeping, ensuring beds are made daily, coordination of care for fine art, furniture, antiques, natural stone, etc.

• Organizational projects for residence in Chicago and storage units in Wisconsin (e.g., driving things from storage units in Wisconsin to Chicago)

• Maintain security system at residence and check/test on a regular basis 

• Maintain vehicles, take for service appointments and keep accurate records of services completed 

• Schedule meetings with principal and/or family office as needed to discuss their schedules, travel plans, upcoming events, special projects, etc.

• Respond to special requests from principal relating to household errands 

• Run errands and perform necessary tasks (e.g., shopping for home supplies, food and other requested items) 

• Pet care for small dog and cat (walking, feeding, taking to groomer and vet, etc.) 

• Provide transportation as requested by principal 

• Supervise the children (as back-up) and/or transport them to and from activities and appointments 

• Maintain appropriate records for budgets and expenses for all activities (adhere to budgetary guidelines) 

• Maintain appropriate protocols to protect the privacy and security of the family and to secure all confidential information 

• Assist and coordinate with other household staff and family in whatever needs to be done (e.g., creating a collaborative/team environment)


• Highly flexible with scheduling/work hours and willing to be accommodating to principal’s needs 

• Highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, excellent time management, efficient and service focused 

• Attentive to principal’s preferences and style (intuitive to their needs)

• Ability to maintain discretion (confidentiality agreement is required)

• Ability to be discreet with respect for employer’s privacy (ability to be friendly without being too familiar and available without being intrusive)

• Professional presentation of self and great personality

• Ability to develop and maintain solid working relationships with service providers, contractors and vendors

• Ability to easily take direction 

• Strong ability to communicate and collaborate efficiently with principal, family office and domestic staff (effective verbal communication skills required)

• Strong technology skills and experience working with Macintosh and Mircrosoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, etc.) 

• Sufficient knowledge of business communications (including telephone, voicemail and e-mail)

• Seeking longevity/long term commitment (e.g., at least 2-5 years, but ideally seeking 5+ year commitment)

• High level of energy, positive attitude and ability to handle residence and staff with ease and calm demeanor

• Willing to assist with day-to-day functioning of busy family and household

• Physical ability to perform household and entertaining responsibilities including ability to reach, kneel and bend

• Active and fit

• Non-Smoker 


• Bachelor’s degree 

• Culinary degree and/or certificate is preferred 

• 5-10+ years of consistent and recent domestic experience as a private chef/house manager with a high net worth or ultra high net worth family 

• 3-4 references from domestic position(s)

• Able to work legally in the United States

• Driver’s license and clean driving record 

• Extensive background checks, motor vehicle checks, drug tests and psychological evaluation 

• Safe vehicle for transportation

• Comfortable with small dog and cat 

• Responsibilities require access to a cell phone for work use, and these expenses are not reimbursed by the company


• $90K+ gross annual salary (based on experience and qualifications) 

• $300 per month gross health insurance stipend
