Night Nurse / Newborn Care Specialist: $50+ Gross Per Hour

Family with main residence in Sacramento, California with their first baby (girl) due on April 14, 2026 is seeking a nurturing, experienced, and knowledgeable night nurse / newborn care specialist. The position is for seven nights per week at 7:00pm – 7:00am. Night nurse is not required to travel with family. The contract for position is three months: March 20, 2026 – June 20, 2026. Applicants need to be honest, trustworthy, understand the importance of maintaining discretion (confidentiality agreement required), collaborative and experienced working with principals that are at residence often (discreet and staying out of the way is important). Family is only interested in local candidates. Start date is March 20, 2026.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Knowledgeable about sleep training and overseeing this process when age and developmentally appropriate (following sleep philosophies preferred by principals)

• Track feedings and diaper changes through use of log and/or iPad app (e.g., Baby Connect)

• Comfortable and experienced working with breast milk

• Speak, read, and sing to baby as often as possible

• Stock inventory in nursery (e.g., diapers, wipes, ointments, etc.), clean bottles and ensure nursery is tidy

• When stocked items are running low on supply, inform principal to order what is needed or order through Amazon (based on preference of principals)

• Wash child’s laundry if necessary (housekeeper will be responsible for majority of laundry, linens, etc.)

• Pack and unpack child for travel

• Ensure diaper bag is always packed with required / requested items to grab and leave whenever necessary

• Introducing solids with pureed baby food or baby-led weaning (based on preferences of principals) when age and developmentally appropriate

• Work collaboratively with principals

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Capable of soothing baby through various techniques (babies have varying approaches for soothing)

• Highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, excellent time management, efficient and service focused

• Attentive to principal’s preferences and style (intuitive to their needs)

• Observant to the needs of family to anticipate their needs (e.g., preparing bottle for a family outing without staff, ready on time when responsible for assisting family on outing, etc.)

• Ability to maintain discretion (confidentiality agreement is required)

• Ability to be discreet with respect for employer’s privacy (e.g., present when preferred by family and hidden when necessary)

• Professional presentation of self and great personality

• Strong ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with principals

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing and/or doula background is ideal, but is not required

• 5-10+ years of night nurse / newborn care specialist experience

• 3-4+ references from domestic positions

• Ability to complete extensive background checks, motor vehicle checks, drug tests, and psychological evaluation

• Driver’s license and clean driving record

• United States passport

• Pediatric CPR Certification

• Vaccinations (MMR, TDap, Flu Shot, etc.) 

COMPENSATION:

• $50+ gross per hour (taxed)

• Guaranteed payment for 84 hours per week (7 nights per week at 12 hour shifts) for 12 weeks (3 months) contract

• One week deposit due at signing of contract
