Temporary Full-Time Private Chef: $450+ per day

Principals with main residence in the Gold Coast of Chicago is seeking a professional, experienced, creative and detail oriented temporary full-time private chef to prepare healthy meals. Temporary position is covering maternity leave for their long term full-time private chef. The schedule for position is five to seven days per week, which includes a combination of weekdays and weekends. Shifts will generally be around 1:00/2:00pm to 9:00/10:00pm or later. There will be occasional days (usually weekends) when private chef is required to work at residence in Lake Forest, Illinois (North Shore suburb of Chicago). Private chef must be willing to travel on June 26 – July 5, 2020 to Nantucket, Massachusetts. Ability to work holidays and events is required. The position requires extreme flexibility as principal’s schedules change frequently. Private chef is expected to prepare meals for principals at lunch and dinner (breakfast will usually be prepared in advance and left in fridge or freezer). Many lunches are prepared and left in fridge for principals to grab on their way out the door in morning. Dinner is always ready around 6:30pm and generally served between 7:00-8:00pm. Candidates must be comfortable working collaboratively with fully staffed residences (e.g., executive assistant, personal assistants, housekeepers, driver, etc.). Ideal candidate has a culinary certificate or degree, bachelor’s degree is desirable but not required, 2-5+ years of consistent and recent domestic experience as a full-time private chef, knowledgeable and experienced with clean and healthy cooking, understands the importance of maintaining discretion, discreet and calm demeanor, comfortable working around dog, assertive, positive, proactive, organized and detail oriented, service focused, kind, respectful and has a flexible schedule. Safe vehicle for transportation is required. Principals are only open to local Chicago private chef candidates. Position is for May 6, 2020 through August 2020 (TBD end date in August based on when private chef has baby).

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Creativity in preparing healthy and clean meals (organic food required)

 

  • Preparing meals based around specific diets (e.g., Vegan, vegetarian, etc.)

 

  • Keeping up-to-date on the latest culinary trends and fads

 

  • Experienced with planning menus for principals and events

 

  • Creating lists and ordering or shopping for fresh foods

 

  • Professional presence and experience in food presentation and table setting is mandatory

 

  • Formal serving of meals to principals (e.g., understanding the formality of “white glove service”)

 

  • All food preparation and kitchen related duties along with grocery shopping

 

  • High standards of health and hygiene with food

 

  • Properly storing ingredients and leftovers

 

  • Coordinating cooking and serving times with principals and domestic employees

 

  • Cleaning and tidying kitchen after each use

 

  • Maintaining all kitchen equipment

 

  • Interactions with extended family, friends and business associates for holiday meals, lunches and events at the residence

 

  • Providing hospitality and service to visitors and guests (including formal service when hosting small private events)

 

  • Ensure pantry, refrigerator and wine cellar are properly stocked in accordance with the principals’ travel and entertaining schedules

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Ability to travel domestically for up to four weeks during temporary agreement/contract

 

  • Highly organized, detail oriented, proactive, excellent time management, efficient and service focused

 

  • Attentive to principal’s preferences and style (intuitive to their needs)

 

  • Ability to maintain discretion (confidentiality agreement is required)

 

  • Ability to be discreet with respect for principals’ privacy

 

  • Professional presentation of self and great personality

 

  • Ability to easily take direction

 

  • Strong ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and efficiently with principals and domestic employees

 

  • Discreet and understand the importance of when to be present and when to be hidden

 

  • Positive attitude and ability to handle private chef responsibilities with ease and calm demeanor

 

  • Active and fit

 

  • Non-Smoker

 

Requirements:

 

  • Culinary degree or certificate

 

  • Bachelor’s degree is desirable and preferred, but not required

 

  • 2-5+ years of consistent and recent domestic experience as a full-time private chef

 

  • 3-4 references from domestic positions

 

  • Eligible to work in the United States

 

  • Safe vehicle for transportation

 

  • Driver’s license and clean driving record

 

  • Extensive background checks, motor vehicle checks, drug tests and psychological evaluation

 

  • Live a close proximity to residence in the Gold Coast

 

  • Comfortable with hypoallergenic dog

 

Compensation:

 

  • $450+ per day

 

  • Guaranteed payment for five days per week

 

  • Legally paid through payroll (W4/W2)
